“Luca”: a fictional hero informs and raises awareness about lung cancer and screening

 

 The story of Simon Bell, who lost an uneven battle with lung cancer, at the age of 57, is spread through the founding, vision and actions of FairLife LCC and never ceases to move us!

Inspired by Simon, the AstraZeneca team creates a new, imaginary hero, Luca.

Luca is an animated fictional character and yet so meaningful through his experiences. Like Simon, Luca is a 57 year old patient, married, father of 2 children, who is diagnosed with Lung Cancer.

We follow Luca on a journey from diagnosis to treatment, while he emotionally struggles with cancer. Through his difficult experience, we seek the optimal path of screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Luca’s story is heartbreaking. So is Simon’s. So is the story of hundreds of lung cancer patients, who need support, information and care, while coping with the disease.

 Korina Pateli-Bell, President of FairLife L.C.C. explains: «Simon’s story, which initiated FairLife, the first non-profit organization in Greece, exclusively dedicated to lung cancer, inspired Luca’s story, a story that speaks to your heart. Luca tells us that patients are not alone, facing the invisible lung cancer. They can prevent cancer with special screening tests, before it spreads. They can also decide on how to act, based on the knowledge and information provided by reliable sources. And they can seek psychological support at every stage of the disease. My warmest thanks to AstraZeneca, because through Luca’s story, our beloved husband and father lives on and contributes, just as he loved to do throughout his life.”

FairLife L.C.C. is the first non-profit organization in Greece, dedicated to lung cancer and created in memory of Simon Bell, who lost the battle with lung cancer, at age 57, in August 2020.

FairLife’s mission is to support patients throughout their difficult lung cancer journey, from diagnosis to treatment as well as to raise public awareness towards prevention and screening, so as to reduce mortality rates and ensure access to diagnostic methods, clinical trials and innovative treatments for every patient.
