The event is held under the auspices of the Central Union of Municipalities in Greece (KEDE), the Municipality of Trikala, the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing (EOOA) and the Hellenic Cycling Federation (EOP).

FairLife – Lung Cancer Care, the first non-profit organization in Greece, exclusively dedicated to lung cancer, will be online #en_drasi throughout November, the Lung Cancer Information and Awareness Month, trying to raise public awareness about prevention, screening and early diagnosis, which save lives. Through various actions, FairLife highlights the importance of physical exercise and mental health for prevention and wellbeing.

Dimitris Papastergiou, Mayor of Trikala and President of KEDE states: “We welcome FairLife’s initiative in November, the Lung Cancer awareness month, here in Trikala, homeland of Asklepios, where wellbeing and therapy are the principles of modern medicine. By emphasizing prevention, we promote life. Supporting FairLife, we join our voices with the citizens, institutions and volunteers, we carry out substantive actions and promote life improvement, awareness and vigilance. Together in prevention, together in life! “

The events were enlivened by FairLife’s brand Ambassadors Nikos Magitsis and Kiki Tsakaldimi and supported through the participation of local sports clubs (Trikala Ski Mountaineering Association, Trikala Runners Club, Trikala Cycling Club), students and many citizens. The companies Omiros Dairy Industry and Violanta, the pharmaceutical companies Amgen, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Roche, Takeda and the Metropolitan Hospital  kindly sponsored the events.

The events started on 06.11.21 with the graffiti presentation, entitled “Let Life take your breath away” by Alexandros Kiskinis, at the 4th high school of Trikala “Giorgos Seferis“. As part of FairLife’s anti-smoking campaigns targeting youth, the art intervention aims to raise awareness of the health risks associated with smoking, among students.

An open information event was later held at the Tsitsani Museum with the participation of FairLife’s Ambassadors, Nikolaos Magitsis and Kiki Tsakaldimi, who inspired the attendees, sharing their personal stories, achievements and will. Both talked about the importance of perseverance, patience and effort as essential elements to achieve a goal, combined with healthy life and exercise. The vice president of the museum Michalis Lappas and the deputy mayor Efi Leventi welcomed FairLife and its guests in the city of Asklepios. Ms. Pateli spoke about the true essence of the events, which aim to highlight the importance of prevention and healthy living. The event was coordinated by the Advisor to the Mayor-City of Trikala, Mr. Harry Kalliaras.

The first day concluded with the illumination of Trikala Central Bridge in white, the color for lung cancer awareness.

The new institution “Asklepieia en drasi” has been inaugurated on November 7, 2021, at 10 a.m. Starting from the Digital Asklepeion Park in Prinos, Trikala, the action included a 6.5km hiking route under the guidance of the Trikala Ski Mountaineering Association, a 10km running route with the Trikala Runners Club and a 24.4km cycling route with the Trikala Cycling Club. Under the slogan “We support those who are ill, we remember those who left us!” and “Let Life take your breath away, not lung cancer!”, distinguished athletes, such as the European Champion and 7 times Greek cycling champion Zisis Soulios, students and many Trikala citizens sent the message that prevention and physical exercise are powerful weapons against Lung Cancer. We wholeheartedly thank them.

The Mayor of Trikala and President of KEDE, Dimitris Papastergiou, referred to the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle, against the backdrop of the Asklepios Plan and in collaboration with Fair Life, for conveying the key message “Let Life take your Breath away “.

Commemorative plaques were presented to the Mayor of Trikala Dimitris Papastergiou, the representative and vice-president of SOHT, Sotiris Karamalis, the president of Trikala Runners Club Vangelis Divanis and the president of Trikala Cycling Club Ilias Zintziovas.

FairLife’s President, Korina Pateli-Bell, noted: «In FairLife, we understand the concept of health as a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing and not just the absence of illness and disability. Health should be our daily routine. The philosophy of Asklepios on health practices focused on mild and regular exercise, healthy diet, connection with nature, relaxation, sleep, healthy relationships and creativity. All the above are tools to prevent as well as treat every disease».

Meanwhile, volunteers, partners and friends joined their voices online, by sending their own message on social media. During November, FairLife will be #en_drasi, promoting online the message of wellbeing, but also a holistic approach to health, also followed by ancient physicians, as a tool for lung cancer prevention and care.
