The 3rd Annual FairLife Lung Cancer Care Conference, entitled Lung cancer in the spotlight – Everyday practice to optimal treatment” will be held on November 29, 2023, 11.00 – 19.00 p.m. at the Atraktos venue, within FairLife L.C.C.’s activities for November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

The hybrid conference will address both scientific and practical challenges of people impacted by lung cancer. We aim to provide information and raise awareness among the general public and representatives of the wider community and the State through engaging presentations delivered by medical scientists.

Sections’ topics will provide information on challenges and barriers as well as solutions – suggestions on prevention and early diagnosis, diagnosis, early stage and metastatic lung cancer, adjuvant therapies and lung cancer stigma.

The 3rd Annual FairLife Lung Cancer Care Conference hopes to reach patients, caregivers and family members impacted by lung cancer, healthcare professionals and scientific institutions, medical students, stakeholders and the wider public,

The conference will be coordinated by journalist Elena Papadimitriou.

More than 50 speakers and commentators – representatives of institutions from the scientific, academic and research community in Greece and abroad, representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Greek State and patients as well as executives of the pharmaceutical industry – will participate in the conference.  They are expected to discuss the current picture of lung cancer in Greece, the latest data and the next steps in the implementation of screening, the expectations after an early diagnosis, the treatment of metastatic disease in Greece, the quality of life of people living with lung cancer and the impact of the smoking stigma.

The event will be addressed by: Korina Pateli-Bell, President of FairLife Lung Cancer Care, Epiphanius, Bishop of Talantia, Representative of the Archdiocese of Athens, Marios Themistocleous, Deputy Minister of Health, Sotiris Tsiodras, Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases, NKU, Athens, Dr. Karen Kelly (MD), CEO of IASLC, Professor Emeritus University of California, Davis, Dimitris Kontopidis, President of the European Lung Foundation and Ewelina Szmytke, Vice President of Lung Cancer Europe (LuCE).

Commenting on the upcoming conference, Korina Pateli Bell, President of FairLife L.C.C. stated: “2023 conference highlights the entire challenging lung cancer journey. We discuss diagnosis as well as living with lung cancer. Sadly, numbers remain discouraging in Greece but also globally. However, steps towards screening and advances in medicine do give us hope for improving this picture. We must stay on common ground, without restrictions or limits. There is no time to lose when it comes to lung cancer! “

FairLife – Lung Cancer Care was founded in memory of Simon Bell, 57, who lost the battle with lung cancer in August 2020.
