Only a little time has passed since we lost our beloved Simon, husband and father, to lung cancer and only those who had felt the breath of cancer on their face can understand the magnitude of pain we have been through.
Simon, 57 years old, fought an incredibly brave battle against this terrible disease, a battle that I dare say we fought together, each and every day and which unfortunately he lost leaving behind his two children, Melina and Eric.
I came to realize though during this time, that it wasn’t only lung cancer that we were fighting against. We seemed to be confronted by obstacles at the turn of every corner.
Although Simon received first class treatment throughout, I still feel incredibly frustrated by the thought that if we had followed a slightly different course of actions Simon might still be with us today. I keep thinking of everything that happened or should have happened and I can’t help but wondering for instance whether my husband would still be alive had he been administered an experimental drug found only in the US and only through clinical study.
Simon passed away on the 4th August 2020 at Metropolitan Hospital in Athens, overlooking the same sea, which as co-founder and shareholder of Fairseas Average Adjusters, had provided for him and his family so well since Simon had served the Shipping Industry for almost 40 years. And it was exactly then that all the people we were close to him decided that all this pain and all this valuable experience we so reluctantly acquired should not be in vain but should materialize into help and hope for similar patients.
