FairLife Lung Cancer Care presents the collection of haiku poems Life that takes your Breath away(Diania Publications), written by FairLife’s youngest ambassador, Orestis Fotis Mikelakis, under the auspices of the Unesco Club of the Department of Piraeus and Islands and FairLife L.C.C. The collection is a New Year’s gift, offered by FairLife, celebrating one year of action against lung cancer.

As a gesture of gratitude towards volunteering, but also as a minimal contribution to FairLife’s vision, the young author grants his rights to support the organization.

It is a heartfelt gift that deeply moves us. We hope it can be an inspiration to those who wish to be our supporters, partners or volunteers.

Orestis Mikelakis states: “Life that takes your Breath away” is a collection of my experiments in writing haikus, while participating in Creative Writing Groups, during my high-school year. Haikus, “one-breath poems”, capture life moments that take your breath away.  These poems somehow complement the first anti-smoking campaign, “14 minutes of life”, organized by FairLife, in collaboration with teen volunteers. We asked our peers to openly speak about smoking and vaping and deliver the message that each cigarette reduces our life by 14 minutes.”

Korina Pateli- Bell, President of FairLife L.C.C., adds: “By following the path of sensitivity, the poems convey the positive message of the value of life and health, but also the importance of lung cancer care and prevention. We envision the new generation being the first one without smoking, the first one with the fewest lung cancer victims. A variety of actions has been undertaken, supporting Prevention – Early Diagnosis and Awareness, Palliative Care and Access to Innovative Treatments.”

The collection of poems – which is available in the main bookstores and in the Diania Publications online store –  is a gift of life for us and for those suffering from lung cancer.
