Janette Rawlinson


Janette has been involved within cancer and health research since 2014. An active  advocate she brings personal and professional experience to support health research, policy and service design. Aiming for patients’ perspectives to be considered within all aspects of healthcare developments, she is involved with several organisations contributing to research, policy and service developments.

Appointed to the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Steering Committee and NHSE’s Clinical Expert Group (Lung cancer) 2017, NHSE’s Lung Screening Advisory Group, and Specialist Cancer Surgery’s Clinical Reference Group (2021) CRUK’s Stratified Medicine Programme board 2015 and NCRI Clinical Studies Group (lung) 2013. After completing a 4 year term on NCRI’s lung group, she moved to Advanced Disease subgroup and Consumer Forum. She served on NIHR Health Services Delivery Research board (PPI) 2014-2018.  Member of European Lung Foundation’s (ELF – part of ERS) Patient Advisory Group (lung Cancer) 2015 and cross cutting ‘United’ Patient advisory group (2020), Public Health England’s National Cancer Registration & Analysis Service Clinical Reference Group (lung) 2015. She is a member of CRUK’s Clinical Expert Review Panel and a regular contributor to lung studies. Her first involvement was raising funds and contributing to patient literature for Roy Castle lung cancer foundation, the UK’s major lung cancer charity.

She has regularly spoken at national and international conferences including EORTC Survivorship Summit (Brussels 2018), ERS Presidential Summit (Athens 2018) and ECCO Summit (Vienna 2018), ERS research summit ‘lung cancer screening from trial  to practice’ Barcelona (Nov 2018,)ERS Congress (Sept 2019), stratified medicine events and Grand Round talks on patient perspectives and is a co-author on ESR/ERS position statement paper on lung cancer screening.

An experienced NHS Non-Executive Director since 2006, Lay Director on an award winning Clinical Commissioning Group her governance experience included Vice Chair of Primary Care Co-commissioning Committee, audit, finance and performance, governing body, cancer steering group member and co-chair of Personalised Healthcare Budget committee.

Following an international business management career, her role as an independent management consultant involves working across sectors with a varied client portfolio.
